Timberlake Consultants invite you to attend the following two day course to be held in Dubai, UAE on 28-30 January 2014.

This three-day course will focus on various applications of Stata 13, including:

  • Organizing and handling data;
  • Data analysis;
  • Linear regression: OLS and GLS;
  • Causal inference with Stata: differences-in-differences and instrumental variables;
  • Producing analysis output: graphs and tables.

The course is designed for academic staff, including master/PhD students, who have a basic knowledge of statistics/econometrics and/or Stata; and those who deal with different types of data and projects in their day-to-day work. The course will also be of interest to non-academic participants who apply data analysis from an econometric perspective.

Sessions 1 & 2: Organizing and Handling Data

  • Key issues about Stata;
  • The grammar of Stata;
  • Organizing and handling data.

Sessions 3 & 4: Data Analysis

  • Summary output tables;
  • Graphs.

Day 2

Session 5: Regression - OLS

  • Computing linear regression estimates;
  • Sampling distribution of regression estimates;
  • Presenting regression estimates;
  • Hypothesis tests;
  • Specification issues: graphically analyzing regression data;
  • Interaction terms and marginal effects.

Session 6: Regression - GLS

  • Heteroskedasticity: causes and test;
  • The robust estimator of the VCE;
  • The GLS and FGLS estimator;
  • Practical examples.

Sessions 7 & 8, Part I: Causal inference - Introduction

  • Defining causality;
  • Regression and causality.

Sessions 7 & 8, Part II: Causal inference with Panel Data

  • Differences-in-Differences;
  • Static panel data models.

Day 3

Session 9: Causal Inference with Panel Data (cont.)

  • Static panel data models;
  • Practical examples.

Session 10 & 11: Introduction to Time Series with Stata

  • Lags, Leads and Differences;
  • Trends;
  • Seasonality;
  • Smoothing.

Session 12: Producing analysis output

  • Graphs and regression tables from Stata to Word and Tex
